Places of interest in Agra:

Taj Mahal - One of the Seven Wonders of the world. A monument for the sake of love. The love of the King of the World for his beloved queen. UNESCO World Heritage monument.

Agra Red Fort-built during 1565 and 1571, the fort colossal double walls rise 20 metres in height and measure 2.5 km in circumference.

Fatehpur Sikri-a complex of monuments and temples. Part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

Akbar's Mausoleum, Sikandra- Akbar started the construction but it was completed by his son Jahangir in 1605.

Dayal Bagh Temple-The main structure is a pure white marble majestic building. It's been under construction for over 100 years (since 1904); some believe the construction should never end, making the temple a living monument.

Itmad-Ud-Daulah's Tomb- the inlay designs and carvings rival the Taj Mahal's.

Mariyam Tomb- a monument dedicated to the wife of Akbar, built in 1611.

TRANSPORT TO/ IN AGRA

Agra airport is 7 kilometres away from the city centre. Indian airlines operate short flights from Delhi to Agra (40 minutes) on a daily basis. Agra is well connected by railroad, as well.

Local transport: buses, taxi, auto-rickshaws and cycle rickshaw from Taj area, prepaid taxis and autos from the railway station, bicycles (to hire on hourly basis). Petrol and diesel vehicles are not allowed in the Taj area. Pollution-free vehicles (such as battery-Operated buses, horse-driven tongas, rickshaws) are available.
