Bhimbetka- an archaeological treasure house. The rocky terrain of dense
forest and craggy cliffs has over 600 shelters belonging to the Neolithic age.
Bhojpur- the temple is about 1000 years old. It attracts devotees of Lord
Shiva in huge numbers during the Shivaratri festivities. This sanctum has the
biggest Shiva Linga carved out of a single stone, rising to 7.5 feet with a
circumference of 17.8 feet.
Samasgarh -hundreds of idols of Jain tearthankars can be seen there.
Manua Bhan Ki Tekri- the Jain temple is a place a pilgrimage. On the
Simha Gate of the temple is an old manuscript carved on the stone, but the
language is still to be deciphered.
TRANSPORT TO / IN BHOPAL
Bhopal airport is 12 km. from the Old City. Indian Airlines operates
daily flights to other major cities, such as
Delhi,
Mumbai (Bombay) and
Indore. Bhopal is
also an important railway station.
Local transport: tourist taxis, auto-rickshaws. No metered
taxis.
