Chelmsford is a town and an administrative district in the
county of Essex. It lies 30 miles northeast of London. Chelmsford is home to the
Diocese of Chelmsford, and has the smallest cathedral in England.
Guglielmo Marconi, the "father of radio" opened the World's first "wireless"
factory in Hall Street, Chelmsford, in 1898, employing around 50 people. In 1922
the World's first regular wireless broadcasts for entertainment commenced from
the Marconi Research Centre at Writtle near Chelmsford.
