Colorado
is a state in the western United States, one of the Rocky Mountain states. It is
bordered by Wyoming (N), Nebraska (N & E), Kansas (E), Oklahoma and New Mexico
(S) and Utah (W).
Colorado is best known as the home of the highest peaks of the Rocky Mountains
which dominate the western half of the state; eastern Colorado is largely high
plains.
The state capital and largest city is Denver;
the Denver metropolitan area contains over half of the state's population.
The state was named after the Spanish word "Colorado" which means "reddish
colored" that refer to the red sandstone formations in the area and reddish
brown color of the Colorado River.
The U.S. Post Office abbreviation for the state is CO.
